It is falling off in strips and there is no sign of irritation on the skin. She is only a year old and has not had any prior health conditions. It has been getting progressively worse over the past week. Has anybody else seen this on a cat?

Check into ring worm. Although it commonly is round patches - it still may be some form of it - your vet will reccomend other mites and bug medicines as well.

My cat had that problem too. She could be biting it off. The skin underneath could be irritating her, or the could have fleas! You should always get that stuff looked at, just in case!
