How can I tame my curly hair?

I have fairly long hair, reaches the back strap of my bra when wet, once it's dry it curls up to the length of my shoulder. I hate the fact that it looks like I have a triangle shape to my hair, once it curls up. I also hate using mousse or hair spray to tame the frizz since it leaves my hair hard and stringy looking

I'm about to lose it and just cut it all off. But I decided to ask here and see if anyone out there that can relate can help me with this.

Are there any cuts or products I can try that would help me define my curls without leaving it rock hard?

I have exactly the same problem!

At first, i used to just wear my hair up ALL the time =| But it looked so boyish! So when my sister suggested mousse, i gave it a go .. But that seemed to make it even bigger!!

I decided to ask my hairdresser what she thought :) ..

She suggested i get layers =] .. As it would bring the curls up so that the weight of them wouldnt all be on the bottom half of my hair. It really worked!! =D !!

Now i can wear my hair out whenever i want!! And using a curl definer also helps a little too so that my curls are glossy and shine =]!!

I would defo reccommend it =P

I like Aveda Be Curly. I use it sparingly, but it really cuts down on the frizz and leaves my hair curly.

Also be very careful not to brush your hair. Especially when it's dry, that turns curls into frizz.

you need a good haircut. some long layers. use nexus or paul mitchell products. especially the strongest gel they have. i have the same hair so i know.

also, this 90 degree humid weather is not helping - nothing we can do about that!

wow u sound exactally like me! yes, hairspray does leave your hair COMPLETELY stringy, kind of like straw. this is what i do to tame my curls and make them pretty..

in the shower i use Garnier Fructis Sleek and Shine Shampoo and Conditioner.

brush your hair when you get out of the shower.

then, i use Proclaim Glossing Polish ( you can get it at Sally's), then i use SoftSheen-Carson CareFree Curl (you can get it at Sally's also). i dry my side bangs, and let the rest of my hair dry naturally. good luck! i hope this works for you like it works for me.

Hi! "The grass is always greener on the other side..."! I'm your opposite. Years ago, I kept perming my hair myself. Sometimes, it was just too curly. I asked the stylist who cut my hair advice. She told me to put lots of conditioner on it (and rinse it out) for a few days in a row. This helped to tame it and soften it. There are lots of products out to "sleek" or "tame" hair. Even Suave makes products if they're not in your budget. There are also "wet/dry" air brushes that help straighten out hair. A leave-in spray-on conditioner is also good. Again, Suave has products if this is not in your budget, but Infusion or Pantene are excellent. Wishing you well!

I feel your pain. I use L'oreal's Pumping Curls. It defines them and you can spray it on damp or dry hair. It also reduces frizz. I spray it on my hair after I've washed and conditioned it. I also like VO5 Curvaceous Curls. It's a mousse, but it's really light on your hair and won't dry it out. I live in Texas and our summers are super hot sometimes and once I use either one of those products, my hair is refreshed.

If normal hairloss is about 100 strands a day, you would have lost 3000 strands by the end of the month. Thats alot of hair.

I'm very hormonal at the moment, and although I've gained alot of chest hair, haha. I'm going balder n balder. I've already lost a hell of alot at each side of my forehead, but the top and middle is getting VERY thin. I believe this hormone boost is excellerating the speed of which my hair falls out.

It's genetic baldness, but it's SO early on. I know it can happen early on but I thought since I've had this boost in hormones I think that when they steady and lower, will some of my thinning hair grow back?

We are seeing a hair loss epidemic in both males and females and it楹搒 occurring at ever younger ages - as young as 14 and 15. Principal cause of problem is harmful shampoos and equally harmful medicated shampoos and medications which we then use to correct problem! Also washing too often is another cause.. Also compounding problem is use of countless other hazardous chemical filled products. I found this NATURAL, safe, permanent and low cost treatment that gives remarkable results - it stops the loss almost straight away. Scalp needs stimulation to clear blocked hair ducts, remove dead follicles so it can start producing strong, well anchored thicker hair. Massage with natural oils, olive oil is excellent, and then brush vigorously (best with a short bristled palm held brush) so you feel it stimulating scalp (35 /45 strokes or more) preferaby each day. A little shedding and some breakage occurs but only to begin with - quickly stops as hair gets anchored and stronger. It will also force new growth overtime (expect to see in about 2 months) My bald patch on the crown has completely regrown. First two are dangerous and both damage hair follicles and cause hair loss.They also harm eyes. The eye stinging you get is telling you that. Fetuses subjected to these substances do not develop functioning eyes, and both can cause cataracts in adults. Propylene glycol - antifreeze - is a known skin irritant and is thought to cause mouth ulcers. It also damages the kidneys and liver. Do a web search for safe, non harming products for hair and skin. Yes, balding tends to be genetic. My father, two younger brothers and some of their offspring all had severe hair loss problems. I truly believe this treatment has saved me from the same fate.

Men can start losing their hair in their late teens in some cases. I started losing mine in my early 20's (look at my avatar). My suggestion to you is to not try to hide it by using crazy hairstyles (people really do notice). I just decided to completely shave my head (it looks like a choice). Take heart, it seems to be more acceptable to be bald nowadays than ever before.

No - you're hair doesn't get darker after a perm. If anything a perm roughs up the cuticle a bit %26amp; makes your hair more prone to fading when exposed to sunlight.

People w/ jet black hair should take care to keep their hair conditioned %26amp; protect their hair when going outside to prevent their permed hair from becoming lackluster.

If anything, it lightens the hair. Always color before you perm to avoid the perm chemicals from altering your color. Make sure to use conditioner regularly.

no you really shouldnt lose your natural highlights and your hair wont get darker. the only thing that a perm does is add chemicals into the hair that makes it more resistant to things like the sun.

After I added a relaxer to my hair my hair became lighter.

I have patches on my legs around my calves where I am losing hair like a bald spot, why is this?

Do you do alot of hiking in boots? I'm in the military and whenever I spend a lot of time in boots, it will rip the hair on my calves out and leave bald spots just from the constant friction.

I can't find a single website that has LONG hair pics. It says long hair but it's only hair that comes past your shoulders or mid back. I have LONG hair....down past my waist, touching my butt. I don't want to lose the length but I would like to have side swept bangs and layers throughout. Everyone says my hair is very pretty not to cut it. It is straight and sleek and I know it's pretty like it is but it won't hold curl because it's so heavy. I would like a lot of layers to add movement.
